The B.A. program in Asian Studies housed at the Sigur Center for Asian Studies offered by the Elliott School of International Affairs at GW begins with a foundation in political science, economics, history, and anthropology that prepares students to deal with issues that cross political and cultural boundaries. From this base, students explore a wide variety of subjects beginning with international politics and policy, moving through trade and economics, development and human rights, culture, and regional studies. All of our students take a language through the third year of college instruction, and most of our students pursue this study through a semester or a year abroad.
The Sigur Center for Asian Studies at the Elliott School also administers the M.A. program in Asian Studies and offers students many valuable resources and opportunities. The program is directed by a large, renowned faculty whose expertise includes foreign affairs, security and policy, language and culture, economics, and history of East, Southeast, and South Asia. The highly diverse and experienced faculty prepares students for careers in the public, private, and non-profit sectors through rigorous coursework in political science, history, and international affairs. To supplement studies in Washington, D.C., the Sigur Center also provides funding for summer language study and research projects in Asia.
