About the Non-Resident Scholar Program
The East Asia National Resource Center (NRC) at The George Washington University welcomes applications for its East Asia NRC Non-Resident Scholar (NRS) program. With the NRC based at the Elliott School of International Affairs in Washington, DC, the NRS program provides a platform to support the research and critical discussion of contemporary issues in East Asia, and to provide scholars the opportunity to connect with the greater GW and DC scholarly and public policy communities. Scholars will be able to gain access to the following GW resources:
- GW Gelman Library
- National Security Archives
- Global Resources Center
- Network of GW faculty and visiting scholars
- And much more!
Scholars will be granted a one-year appointment of academic affiliation with GW, with the possibility of renewal at the discretion of the NRC. While affiliated with GW, Scholars are encouraged to explore additional resources in the DC area relevant to their topics of research. Scholars who are able to visit DC are welcome to make use of the NRC’s office space. Throughout the duration of the appointment, Scholars are expected to contribute to intellectual life at GW in the form of:
- One significant individual contribution in the form of a written article or an oral presentation in a public seminar on the topic of their research; and
- Select participation in related NRC programming where feasible, such as digital media interviews, podcasts, and curriculum development.
Application Process
To apply, fill out the application form and submit a full application package to gweanrc@gwu.edu. Application packages must include the following materials:
- A completed NRS application form
- A brief (1-2 page, single-spaced) research proposal that includes: a summary of the research problem and topic, anticipated resources to use, and proposal of a contribution
- A CV/resume
- Although not required, the NRC may ask for a letter of recommendation if deemed necessary
