Junior Japan Bowl Resources (J2B)

J-LEARN (The Japanese Language Education Advocacy and Resource Network) has hosted the annual Jr. Japan Bowl every spring since 2017.

J-LEARN collaborated with the East Asia National Resource Center to create learning materials for students to prepare for the Jr. Japan Bowl competition. The Junior Japan Bowl is an academic competition, modeled after the National Japan Bowl, which was created in 1992 by the Japan-America Society of Washington DC. Students are grouped into teams of three to answer questions about the Japanese language, culture, history, and social studies in a quiz-bowl format. Junior Japan Bowl consists of three levels: Level 1 (Grades 1-3); Level 2 (Grades 4-6); and Level 3 (Grades 7- 8). All elementary and middle school students, including Japanese heritage students, who are studying Japanese are eligible to compete as long as they have not attended a school where Japanese is the primary language of instruction for more than two academic school years in Japan after the age of six.

It was an honor to work with J-LEARN to support students in the U.S. prepare for this nationwide competition. This page is devoted to the resources created for the annual Junior Japan Bowl competition with links to competition videos, reports, and the Jr. Japan Bowl’s website.
